Too much culture? Nature lovers practice “Cancel Culture” – but left song summer takes place — RT DE

The practice of canceling rooms, performances and events that have long been promised at short notice has been spreading for years. Sometimes reasons are given, sometimes not. The cancellations often come from public authorities. Now the “nature lovers” have probably found it to their liking.

The positive news first: The “Linke Liedersommer” will take place from today – and until Sunday, and in full. Until a few days ago it didn’t look like it. But first things first.

For the ninth time, the cultural seminar of the German Freethinkers Association, the Left Song Summer, was to take place in the Naturfreundehaus Rahnenhof. The house in the Palatinate Forest had become something like the traditional venue for the seminar for many years. But this tradition is probably over for now. Like the Freidenker on their website write, they received a rejection just one week before the start of the seminar. And without a conference house, the whole seminar was on the brink – after two years, in which the well-known “Corona measures” had prevented the implementation of the song summer. Apparently, the termination this year took place without the Naturefriends having sought a conversation in advance.

“Anti-German” pattern

As the freethinkers write, the cancellation was preceded by a veritable “hate campaign” that a Naturefriends official in Ludwigshafen had unleashed. He defamed a number of artists as “racists”, “anti-Semites”, “corona deniers”, “queer frontlers” and the like. These labels were presented in a style that was well known from the “anti-German” scene.

As examples, the freethinkers cite a number of publicists, scientists, activists and artists who have fallen victim to such campaigns in recent months and years. Such slander may also be “inspired by the secret service,” as the freethinkers write. Prominent names in this context include Dr. Werner Rügemer or Lisa Fitz:

“Landlords and organizers are bombarded with calls, letters and e-mails in order to bring about slander and cancellations. The associated permanent damage to reputation can even lead to the destruction of existence in individual cases. Also called ‘cancel culture’ in modern German.”

Prevention of the culture seminar averted

All allegations and allegations emanating from the nature lovers have been rejected. The Freidenkerverband had tried to have the “cancellation” withdrawn, but without success.

In order to thwart the “main goal” of the “‘anti-German’ campaigners”, the prevention of the song summer, a number of alternatives had to be played out in a very short time. Now, despite all the adversities, the culture seminar is taking place – and the freethinkers hope to be able to welcome “last-minute visitors” to Bad Orb in Hesse. One regrets that with such campaigns two traditional organizations of the workers’ movement should obviously be turned against each other, but set the resolute “Now more than ever!” opposite.
